That's because they aren't able to climb to a higher altitude like a jet would be able to, leading to a potentially bumpy and uncomfortable flight.

While the Saab 2000 can be used as a civilian passenger turboprop, there seems to be only one airline in the world using the aircraft: Swedish carrier Air Leap, which operates flights around Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

The answer is that turboprops are most efficient at an altitude between 25,000 and 30,000 feet. That's because turboprops work best at a particular density of air- and going higher than the mid 20,000s makes it more difficult for turboprops to efficiently provide thrust.

Cheapest Personal Aircraft - These planes were built between 1946 and 1950, so all of them that you find are going to be at least 70 years old. But don’t let that deter you. While prices will vary wildly among airports depending on location, type of storage, and competition, expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $500 per month for storage costs. You can also expect to pay another $100 or so for the tie-down gear required to hold your plane in place.
All that said, you can expect to find a Cessna 170/172 for a little under $30,000, with most selling in the $26,000 to $29,000 range — coming in at 7th in our rankings. This is actually the most popular plane of all time, outselling any other model in history. That’s why you can find them for such a great price, they’re everywhere. When it comes to buying your own plane, you will struggle to find a better bang for your buck than a Cessna 170 or 172.

So to buy a light sport something with an enclosed fuselage and reasonable steam gauges is gonna cost more than $100K. I don’t think so. If the new medical rules pass, machines like this will litter the sides of runways. If the medical rules don’t pass, THIS long term pilot will just hang up the headsets and buy a new Corvette … for less money.
The ONLY hope I have of getting back in the air is an ultra lite. I also ride a harley sportster because they are cheap and well built. I can’t afford a road king and turns out, this sporty is fun as all get out.

The Silvaire moniker has become commonplace for all 2-seater models of Luscombe airplanes, but the first actual Silvaire was built way back in 1940, the model 8C. Since then, the 8E and 8F have been built and released, remaining as popular as ever. This affordable aircraft can be a bit of a struggle to land due to its narrow landing gear and responsive controls, so we don’t really recommend it to beginner pilots. Although once you master it, the Silvaire is an amazing plane for its price.

You hit the catch 22 on the head. There aren't enough pilots to create the demand to bring the prices down. There price is too high to attract more pilots. The question is, who blinks first.
I would argue that it has to be the manufacturers who drop their prices to attract more first time customers and trust that, in the long run, these customers will continue to upgrade etc. It's obviously not that simple and there are a ton of variables that go into lowering the prices.
But, if it doesn't happen, I just don't see how GA survives as anything but a hobby for the super rich. I just hate articles like this that purport to say, “Look, you CAN actually own a new plane on a middle class income!”
Technically, true; practically, false. The Mark III Xtra has become Kolb's most popular aircraft. It is based off the Mark III Classic design with some aerodynamic enhancements to generate an extra 10-15 mph cruise speed. I've been wondering what's going to happen to all those expensive planes sitting in thousands of hangars around the country, their owners either too old or too uninterested to fly them anymore. These are expensive, capable airplanes and if there's nobody around to buy them when the estate gets sold, I guess the majority of them are just going to deteriorate and eventually disappear.

🙂 But in the case of the Skylane or Bonanza, there are alternatives that aren't as popular or as pricey. Sometimes this has to do with speed or utility. Mid-'60s Bonanzas cost a lot more than late-'50s models do, and not just because they're new but also because they're faster.
For those buyers who are willing to be 10 or 15 knots slower, there are excellent alternatives to the Bonanza, and sometimes that might mean an older Bonanza. Alternatives. I get the feeling that Richard has his head screwed on.
I would prefer an aerodynamic plane that can take me 200Ks with low fuel usage. Where I must fly there is only woodland or sea, and the sea has crocs, so reliability is everything. Finally, the condition of the plane you buy is critical to the purchase decision. If you were to get a plane with unknown or unrevealed problems, you could spend a lot of dough getting it back up to snuff.
Engine and prop are a critical part of that calculus. The flip side is, if you're willing to fly a plane with older paint and a less-than-chic interior, you could save a huge percentage of the purchase price because of factors not directly related to the flyability or mechanical soundness of the

And we don't even need a new product – just a change in attitude about what is already out there. If someone wants a plane, get a real plane. Those things are dangerous if their very narrow limitations are exceeded and as for those chain saw motors.

They're dangerous as hell in wind. And wind is what flying is all about. First, the pilot population is shrinking dramatically. The number of pilots between the ages of 30-50 was huge half of a century ago, but is very small today.
